QUESTIONS ABOUT GIVING
Why should I give?
Giving is good for our hearts! Jesus said that “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matt 6:21) God doesn’t want anything from us, but He does want something for us, and giving moves our hearts toward God. The Bible also calls us to give our first portion as an act of gratitude and trust in God’s provision (Proverbs 3:9-10). By giving, our money is invested in something that lasts forever and pays eternal dividends—people.
How much should I give?
If you are a follower of Jesus Christ and consider Chorus your home church, then consider a “tithe”, which is ten percent of your income. This is the “power portion” that blesses the rest. (Malachi 3:10)
Do your leaders tithe?
Yes! It is the responsibility of every believer to tithe. For example, Pastor Dave and Elena have been tithing their entire married lives (over 25 years of giving the first 10% of their income) and have seen God’s faithfulness. They, along with many others, tithe at Chorus.
Who handles the finances?
We have both a financial administrator and a professional bookkeeper to handle our finances. They are subject to our Elder Board and to the congregation. We review our financial practices on an ongoing basis.
Where does the money go?
God uses the money to further His ministry. We develop an annual unified budget and then use those dollars to fund our mission to help people connect with God and others. Our unified budget includes missions, staff, factiliy rental, community ministry, equipment, and much more. (For example, our facility lease is nearly $7000 per month.) Staff salaries are set by our Elder Board and reviewed annually. Our annual budget is public and printed yearly.
Can I get a tax-receipt for my contribution and how do I give a gift?
Yes. We mail donor receipts annually. Chorus Church is an IRS approved 501-c non-profit corporation. Gifts can be mailed to our office at Chorus Church, 29920 Hunter Road, Murrieta, CA 92563, given on Sundays during the service, or Click Here to Give Online (FYI: there is no fee to you, but Chorus is charged a merchant fee when you give online), or set-up a bill-pay option with your own bank free of charge. Gifts are used in accordance with the approved budget and, in general, cannot be designated for a specific fund.
I bought supplies for the church. Is that part of my giving?
If you would like to donate items or services, thank you! But if you are able, please do so above and beyond your offering or tithe. This helps us determine an accurate budget based on true spending. Pre-authorized purchases for Chorus are reimbursed to individuals submitting documentation.
Who can I contact for more information?
If you’d like a copy of our annual budget or more information about church finances, please contact Treasurer Andy Sunderland or Bookkeeper Tiffany Axene.
